Special occasion, special outfit
Happy 4th of July! In lieu of the holiday, I have decided to take a closer look at how national holidays affect the way people dress, if only for the day. In most cases, holidays are tightly linked to color themes, and a good amount of people tend to follow such patterns to display their holiday spirit. Combine the color theme with a few key pieces, and what results is the typical holiday outfit. For instance:
- New Year’s Eve/Day: evening gowns (or other formalwear) => party all night long
- Valentine’s Day: white, pink, red; lace; diamonds => ready for a date with that special someone
- St. Patrick’s Day: green => avoid those Leprachauns
- Easter: pastel colors; sundresses; white gloves; straw hats => welcome the spring and new life
- Independence Day: red, white, blue; flip-flops; sunglasses => break out the all-American gear for the BBQ
- Halloween: orange, black (if not a costume…) => channel those inner spirits
- Thanksgiving Day: tan, orange, brown => a throwback to nature’s autumnal palette
- Christmas Day: silver, gold, red, green; furs; Santa hats; bells => the ultimate representation of holiday cheer
How many women buy new outfits for these special occasions? My guess is that most splurge for Christmas and New Year’s; after all, those holidays mark a transition from the old to the new. One special day that I have excluded from the list is the all-important birthday. I would imagine that every woman would take extra care and time in dressing up for her birthday, for the day itself can serve as a good excuse for buying a new dress or a great pair of heels.
